5 TIPS TO SANITISE YOUR EVERYDAY ITEMS QUICKLY AND EASILY

With the COVID-19 pandemic continuing to prove front of mind in all of our lives, it makes sense to pay extra attention to keeping everything as clean and sanitised as possible. This is most especially true for our everyday items, as the odds of them becoming the vessel for contaminants are larger thanks to their higher amount of use.

Although it means having to disinfect these items more often, the task doesn’t have to be a huge chore. Try out these tips from our team at Collonil to make disinfecting quick and easy:

1. Do it daily

It can be hard to follow through with a deep, thorough clean if you have other commitments more pressing, such as family and work schedules. But as far as keeping you and your family safe, allotting 15-minutes a day to sanitise things could help in keeping your home free of foreign nasties. This won’t free you from having to do general cleaning on the weekend or at the end of the month, but it would certainly make the job so much easier in the intervening periods.

2. Take note of high-contact items and surfaces

If you want to ensure you’ve covered all your foundations first, at least identify the items that people tend to touch the most. You can even make a list to ensure you don’t forget anything.

There’s no default list of items that would comprise these high-contact items, so observe what most people in your household do, such as using appliances in kitchens, which door handles get the most use, and so on. To ensure that other people would also have an opportunity to wipe surfaces even outside of their daily schedule, keep cleaning items close to these areas for easier access.

3. Use the right cleaning agent

There’s no cleaning formula that would be appropriate for all types of materials. We know that you want to ensure that everything is sanitised. But who said that it must come at the expense of deteriorating the condition of your items?

At the same time, you don’t want it to be too mild that it doesn’t actually clean anything. That’s why it’s important to read the directions of every cleaning agent you plan to use, as it allows you to use the right concentration on the right items.

4. Get a HEPA vacuum filter

Keeping dirt and dust out of the air is more important now than ever. But did you know that the regular filter blows back into the air as much as 70 per cent of the dust and allergens?

This means that with your average vacuum, you’re still blowing a lot of the dust in the air which may aid in spreading existing germs or contaminants. A HEPA filter does more without taking more of your time.

5. Have isopropyl alcohol on hand

You should always have 70% isopropyl alcohol on your person. This way, you can immediately disinfect anything that needs it, such as seats on public transport. By doing so, you’re effectively limiting the spread of germs or viruses on your items.
